Benjamin Piccolo
Director of Special Projects

Benjamin Piccolo is the Director of Special Projects at the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. In this role he leads a team of analysts with decades of experience on Congressional committees and commissions, the Department of Defense, the Department of State, and the U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as the private sector. Mr. Piccolo is responsible for the production of high quality reviews, fact sheets and alerts in accordance with CIGIE quality standards for inspections and evaluations. His team addresses all aspects of the U.S. investment in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Mr. Piccolo had a distinguished career as a senior executive for the Department of the Army where he spent 32 years with the U.S. Army Audit Agency at all levels of the organization from an auditor trainee up through the Acting Auditor General. Mr. Piccolo retired in 2011 and became the Assistant Inspector General for Audit at SIGAR from September 2011 until February 2013. Mr. Piccolo spent the last six years in the private sector managing day-to-day operations of a consulting company providing financial management services to the Department of Defense and a tax firm providing accounting and tax services to small businesses.

Mr. Piccolo is a certified public accountant and has a Master's Degree in Business Administration from University Maryland University College and a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Penn State University.
